Summer in the garden is normally a time for multi-coloured herbaceous borders and seasonal bedding in every colour of the rainbow. So on a trip to Tatton Park Garden in Cheshire last week, it was refreshing to step into the Japanese Garden and experience a cool, calming haven where the only obvious colour to be seen is green.
Later in the year this garden will be ablaze with autumnal reds, pinks and yellows. Large crowds will gather as the Acers put on their dazzling glad-rags and take centre stage. For now though, it’s a place of Zen-like tranquility where the simplicity of mother nature’s most natural colour and the symbolism of the Japanese style are in perfect harmony.
